Decorating Tips: Turning a House Into a Dream Home

Published by Resource on June 23, 2021 in category: Home Improvement with tags:

There’s a difference between a house and a home. A house is simply where you live. A home, on the other hand, is where you want to live forever. Your home is a reflection of who you are and how you see the world. But how do you create a space that will be a reflection of yourself as well as your home? The best way to turn your house into a home is by decorating.

First, decide on the style you want to reflect in each room. If you don’t quite know your vision yet, get inspired by reading  magazines or Internet research. Pay close attention to the pictures, such as furniture, window treatments, drapes, artwork, etc., and lightning will strike.

Determine the Purpose of Each Room

Before diving in, realize the purpose of every room in the house and what mood you want to set. You might discover that each room needs different decoration. For example, decorating a playroom for your kids will differ greatly from the family room, for example. Regardless of the room, the decorating possibilities are limitless.

Fabric and Texture

You should also pay special attention to the fabrics you will need to decorate your home. Keep in mind that fabric for cushions, curtains and pillows will be different, but should all reflect a theme. Ensure the fabric you use is not only eye-catching, but, in the case of cushions and pillows, comfortable.

Texture is a key factor to decorating. Try to incorporate interesting textures into the décor, such as fabrics. You can find dull yet durable fabric that will last a long time, but look for textures that are sophisticated or enticing. One of the great qualities of fabric is that it can be mixed and layered to create a fine balance between form and function.

Prime examples of fabrics that are often used to create interesting focal points in a room include silk, velvet, lace, chintz and damask. Experimenting with fabric allows you to create a one-of-a-kind space that is perfect for you and your home. Using different textures, fabrics and patterns will make your home feel more elegant and inviting.

Color Combinations

Finding the right combination of colors to use in your home can pose the biggest challenge when it comes to decorating. Color is known to evoke strong emotions in people and create different moods. So, choose colors that inspire joy, including bright colors like yellow and orange, and use somber colors, such as black and gray, sparingly. You don’t want your house to look and feel like a morgue. After all, the purpose of decorating a room is to create an atmosphere in which you want to spend a lot of time. You don’t want a room that will depress you.

You’ll be amazed at the difference the right colors, fabric and textures can make in your home. Visitors will feel more comfortable and welcome and you will feel like your house has turned into a dream home.
